An Forecasting Platform Trader Earned $436,000 from Wagers Predicting the Ouster of Maduro.
A bettor profited close to $500,000 by predicting the removal of Venezuela's president shortly prior to it was officially announced, leading to inquiries about potential gains made from non-public details of the US operation.
Sudden Shift in Wagers
Bets placed on the crypto-platform, a crypto-powered platform, that the Venezuelan president would be no longer in control by the end of January surged in the time leading up to President Donald Trump stated on the weekend that Maduro had been taken into custody.
One account, which joined the platform last month and made four bets, all on Venezuela, earned over $436,000 from a initial bet of over $32,000.
The identity is unknown. This unidentified trader had only a string of letters and numbers for identification.
Odds Fluctuate Before Public Statement
Platform data shows that participants assessed the probability of the president's removal at just 6.5% in the midday period of Friday, January 2nd.
However these probabilities had jumped to 11% by the end of the day and surged in the morning of the next day, indicating a rapid movement in betting activity immediately prior to the official statement was made.
"This specific wager has all the signs of a trade based on non-public details," said an industry expert.
Several of other platform users also profited large payouts from similar wagers.

Some lawmakers are starting to take note.
A bill introduced on Monday aims to prohibit government employees from participating on forecasting platforms if they have "insider details" related to a wager.
